located in the historic town of Kitakamakura,
close to Engakuji Temple,
one of the five temples of Kamakura.

The smell of the wood, the feel of the tatami mats, and the light coming through the shoji paper sliding doors

    Based on the traditional sukiya style, Chikusuian's authentic tea ceremony room (Japanese-style room) is a serene space where you can experience the manners and aesthetics of the tea ceremony.

    Japanese aesthetics are also present in details such as the tokonoma (alcove), light from round windows, and stone lanterns in the garden.

    Quiet light streaming in through round windows and hanging scrolls add dignity to the space, creating a relaxing moment even for first-time visitors.       We have a tatami matted dressing room surrounded by bright natural light and the warmth of wood. Whether you are changing into a kimono before experiencing a tea ceremony or preparing for a tea party or photo shoot, you can prepare yourself in a relaxed and tranquil environment.

      The feel of the tatami calms the mind and creates a moment to switch from everyday life. This is a safe and comfortable space for guests with children and their companions.

      Mizuya

      The mizuya, which is essential for preparing for and cleaning up after tea ceremonies and tea ceremony experiences, is a clean and organized space that emphasizes ease of use. It is a quiet place where the behind-the-scenes work that supports the tea ceremony takes place, including the management of utensils used in the tea ceremony, the preparation of hot water, and the cleaning of tea bowls.

      The Mizuya at Chikusuian is equipped with all the necessary facilities and can accommodate full-scale tea ceremonies. You can feel the spirit of the tea ceremony, which puts the heart and soul into even the movements that do not appear on the surface.

      Tsukubai

      A tsukubai is a water basin placed in the garden of a tea ceremony room or in an open-air garden. It is named “tsukubai ” because it is used to cleanse the hands in a crouching posture.

The rates at Chikusuian are available for a variety of planning purposes.
For large groups or those who prefer a more private experience, we recommend a one-day rental.

Options must be reserved in advance. Additions or changes can be made up to one week prior to the reservation date.
